An adjustable bed with pillow tilt is an adjustable bed where the pillow area can adjust the pillow area. There are two different types of pillow tilts, auto, and controllable pillow tilts. The pillow tilt is usually on the higher end adjustable beds, but some lower end adjustable beds have the pillow tilt feature, but the feature is not as strong as the higher end adjustable beds like the Malouf S755 and the Ergomotion Rio 6.0.

There are two different types of pillow tilt adjustable beds: auto and controllable.  The auto one has no control over the pillow tilt adjustments. When the head rises, the pillow tilt adjusts. The Controllable pillow tilt can adjust anytime one would like. This is the preferred pillow tilt.

The adjustable beds with pillow tilt are the Malouf S755 and the Ergomotion Rio 6.0. There are also pillow tilts on the Kingship Comfort Diamond base and the Ergomotion Rio 5.0. The Ergomotion Rio 5.0 has auto pillow tilt which is not the preferred. Most like the controllable pillow tilt instead of the auto pillow tilt.

Elevation refers to an adjustable bed that will tilt at an angle flat. Symphony Sleep is the main company that originally manufactured this feature. They own the patent to the elevation kit feature and are the creator of Okin motors which are the best motors for adjustable beds.

Different Models that have Elevation

The Symphony Sleep has two new models that are the Symphony Sleep ES600 and the Symphony Sleep ES500 model. The main difference is the ES600 has lumbar support whereas the ES500 does not. The Elevation kit is a kit that is added to both the bases which normally does not come with the base. This is an optional kit to purchase.

The main reason for this feature is acid reflux or GERD. It is the reason is why it was created and also there is a study called the incline sleep therapy which in turn explains the different benefits of elevation for overall health, but the main reason was to help people with acid reflux.

The bases with this feature are the Malouf S755, Malouf S655, and the Malouf M555 adjustable bed. This feature was introduced in 2024 but is on all the 2025 models. One will need a smart phone to access this feature to be able to work with the base.

A hi low adjustable bed is an adjustable bed that can rise vertically up and down. This whole feature is to assist one in and out of bed. The Flex a Bed Hi Low SL has this feature along with the Symphony Sleep ES600 and the Symphony Sleep ES500.

How to Adjust the Feature

On the remote, there is a button for the hi low feature. Depending on the manufacturer, the button icon will be different but very similar in look. The hi low feature can stop any time up or down, so there is no height that fits all features.

Understand the different heights

The height will depend on the manufacturer. The range of the height can be 7 inches or 10 inches up and down and it is important to know the height of the base at the very lowest positions so one will know the prefect height to assist in and out of the bed.

Setting up Your Adjustable Bed

Upgrading to an adjustable bed doesn’t have to be complicated. Many adjustable beds have easy to navigate instructions for set up and use.  The following are general guidelines and may not apply to every brand and model.

Setting up your adjustable bed.

  1. After initial delivery, move the box into the room that you wish to set up your new bed into.
  2. Unpack bed with bottom facing upward.
  3. Screw on legs.
  4. Carefully turn the bed top up. This may require two or more people as you don’t want to lean the bed on its legs as you turn it.
  5. Top with mattress.

Using your adjustable bed.

  1. Features are generally accessible using the included remote.
  2. Press buttons to adjust incline up and down, flat button for flat position, pillow tilt if available and massage if available is also turned on and off with buttons on the remote.
  3. To program positions that you want to easily find again, depending on the model, you will adjust the bed into the desired position, then press and hold a set button followed by the number of the preset you want it to be programmed into.
  4. Some adjustable beds come with app control availability which is simple to use. Just download the app from the app store or play store and follow prompts.
